I've never really been one for wearing high heels, I was tall enough without them at nearly 5'9" through my adult life and now even though I'm short, think I could just about make 5'4" if that, I couldn't wear them.
Mind you as I don't go out I live my life in slippers.
Wearing the short skirts when skating was the norm back then unless you were only just starting and the skates were lace up, whether they were your own or the hire ones. I did my skating at Nottingham Ice-Rink where Torvill and Dean started out. Met my first husband there, his mates had persuaded him to go, wish they hadn't.
