These miniature wooden hammers came in very handy when making my Smashable Hearts for Valentine's Day. So after perusing the internet for a while, I finally settled on these. Brand The brand I chose was the Toyandona - 12 Pce Mini Wooden Hammer/Mallets - Style 2. Packaging The mini hammers arrived in a small plastic parcel bag. Quantity There were 12 miniature hammers in the packet. Materials The hammers are made from smooth, sturdy wood. (Please note that the hammer's head is slightly smoother than the handle). Shape The handle of the hammer sits on a slight diagonal angle to that of the head. Instructions None were provided; however, I did wash them in hot soapy water, rinsed them and then left them to air dry on a wire...
I received some Dobla Candy Canes from Dawn Foods just before Christmas, and I thought it would be worth doing a mini-review on them. Now even though they were a gift, I haven't been asked to review them. However, I'm trying to review all the items that I use so that you guys know what they are and where to buy them from. That way, you can make your own informed decisions about the products you see on my site and decide if they're for you. Now back to the review! Dobla Candy Canes - Luxury white chocolate canes covered in a deep red swirl. Size The Candy Cane is approximately 45 mm from the top to the base. The width of the stick is around 13 mm. The depth is 6 mm. While the bend on the top is approximately 25 mm across...
If you are looking for a detailed rope border effect for your cakes or cupcakes, then this is the mould for you. This Katy Sue Silicone Rope Border Mould is easy to use, comes in multiple sizes and creates a detailed design usually only derived using a piping technique. Mould Size The mould itself is approx 196 mm in length x 50 mm wide and made using FDA approved food-grade silicone. The mould has three different rope sizes ranging from large to small. Large Rope Border - Approximately 10mm in height x 6mm in width. Medium Rope Border - The height is approximately 7mm x 5mm in width. Small Rope Border - Height is approximately 5mm x 4mm in width. The large and medium sizes can be used on celebration cakes and cake boards...
I recently made a 100th birthday cake and was looking for a 100th Happy Birthday Cake Topper to enhance, highlight and, add a little sparkle to the petite cake that I was making. So after a bit of searching on the internet, I came across this. It had just the right amount of bling without being too harsh on the purse strings. The topper came relatively quickly in the post and arrived in a 'Please do not bend envelope' to prevent any damage in transit. Dimensions and specifications of the topper are as follows: Size - Approximately 14.7 cm wide x 14.2 cm high. Pattern - Silver Glitter Design on the front. Reverse - White Card. Insert - Clear Food Safe Stick (approx) over 6 cm in length. When the topper arrived, it was enclosed in a...
I have been asked to make a Beauty and the Beast cake and was looking for a swag/drape mould to incorporate into my design. So, after further research, I finally settled on this — the Triple Classic Swag Mold created by Marvelous Molds. The mould is approximately 1800 mm wide x 450 mm deep, extremely bendy and has raised bladed edges to give you a better cut. This one is taken from their Swag Mold Collection. Before use, I washed the mould in hot soapy water and left it to dry. To use the mould, you are required to lightly dust it with either cornflour/cornstarch or icing/confectioners sugar so that the icing fondant doesn't stick. I used Renshaw Extra Icing to have the firmness and elasticity of hardened icing fondant that...
I have been searching for some Beauty and the Beast Cupcake Toppers recently and decided on these premium rice paper ones from My Cupcake Toppers. The website has a variety of products available including Edible Icing, Rice Paper and Premium Rice Paper Toppers, all of which can be ordered in sheet form or pre-cut into discs. I opted for the 15 x Premium Rice Paper Pre Cut Discs. (I know for all you eagle-eyed readers there are only 13 in this picture, but the other two are pictured below). 😊 Once ordered they arrived the next day in a sealed cellophane bag in the envelope. They are clearly labelled and list their best before date. (Thus allowing you to order in advance if needs be and use them at your leisure). The edible...
I've been looking at buying some more patterned/embossing moulds recently and came across this design mat. It is from the Katy Sue Range and is their Daisy Design. The mat itself doesn't look that exciting; however, once paired with your icing, it will create the most beautiful patterned results. It comes with a set of instructions on the reverse side to advise you how to use it, and you must wash the mat in hot soapy water and then let it air dry before use. It's made from FDA approved food-grade silicone and is approximately 107 mm x 107 mm x 6 mm in size. To create the pattern, I first rolled out a small piece of icing/fondant onto a dusted surface. I tried to make it roughly the same size as the design mat. To create...
These Cake Star Push Cutters are simple to use alphabet plungers, and although they're a little bit expensive, I've found that they are worth the investment. Not only do they save me time with letter cutting, but I have also used them on my last three cakes. I purchased the Mini Uppercase versions as I had read reviews that the Upper Case ones were a little on the large side. The cutters come neatly packed in a slot of 26 letters. The plunge cutters themselves are approximately 34mm high x 32mm wide. Tip: Wash them thoroughly the day before in hot soapy water and allow them to air dry by standing them up on a wire rack, this allows all the water contained in them to drip straight out. To use them, you will need to do the...
This PME cake tin is made from Aluminium; it's 9 inches in length x 9 inches in width x 3 inches high. Before use, I washed the tin in hot soapy water, rinsed it and left it to air dry. Note: DO NOT put the PME tins in the Dishwasher, if you do you'll strip the coating off them and they will become unusable. Therefore ensure you always hand wash them. The tin is very sturdy and has a sharp-rimmed edge all the way around it, which is great to hold onto when moving the cake to and from the oven. It retains its shape whilst in there, and the cake seamlessly slides out once baked. (I did use Bake Easy and lined the bottom to assist with this process). As the tin has a very smooth finish and no grooves, no cake residue or crumbs...
