A range of tiered and carved cakes that I have made.
This celebration cake was made for my Mum's friend's birthday. The cake itself is a Madeira cake that was filled with buttercream and jam; it was then covered in white icing. The orange gerbera flowers were made up in stages using a sunflower gerbera push cutter and other tools to create the effect. This was a square Madeira cake that was carved into shape using a drawn template to make Pikachu's body. The ears and tail are made from icing fondant, and the centre is covered in jam and marzipan for a smoother finish. Home sweet home! This pink and white cottage-looking toadstool cake was one I made for my daughter's birthday. I carved the roof shape, used different shape cutters for the windows, then I used edible decorations and flowers to complete the path and hundreds and thousands for splashes of extra colour. This was made in September 2010. Cake Showcase How to cover a cake using Icing or Marzipan Tutorials Easy Cupcake Toppers Gifts and Sweet Treats
Simple Snowman Cake. This was the first cake decorating topper I taught my students how to make on a festive fayre weekend in Christmas 2010 with Linda. It was a very simple design and very easy to do yet very effective. The simple shapes form a snowman, and this was taught in December 2010. Smiley Snowman Surprise! This is a rich fruit cake which was topped with brandy and left to mature for several weeks. Once ready, I covered it in marzipan and white icing; I then used a snowflake plunge cutter for the edible snowflakes and bought the snowman decoration to top it. The footprints in the snow were my Dad's idea, I was a little hesitant to put the marks in the fondant but I'm so glad we did! We used a ball tool to make the footprint impressions. This was one of the first proper cakes I made for my daughter when I went on a Slatterys Cake Course. It was hard work, and to be honest, I wasn't sure I'd be able to complete it. But once I'd finished the workshop, I realised it was something I enjoyed doing and wanted to continue to do. The cake was made in stages, starting with the dress and shoes. The shoes took me a couple of attempts, but I got there in the end. Then the hands, gloves and bag. Then to the head, this was the most daunting part, especially trying to get the face on. But I did it and ended up with this. It's not perfect and a little rough around the edges, but it was my first attempt at a 'real cake', and I enjoyed it. Julie, the lady who ran the...
For a quackers birthday surprise! This carved cake(s) was made using Vitalite instead of my normal butter/margarine as the recipient needed a dairy-free cake. I was quite surprised by the results, and everything held together and tasted delicious. This was made for my God-daughter's first birthday in Feb 2011. This was also my very first attempt at a 3D cake! Cake Showcase How to cover a cake using Icing or Marzipan Tutorials Easy Cupcake Toppers Gifts and Sweet Treats
Halloween Fun Cake, this cake was made for our guests Lindsay, Daniel and Lewis who came round to visit us near the Halloween Celebrations. This skull design is simply two sponge cakes cut to fit inside one another and then covered in white icing fondant. I used a circle cutter for the eyes, freehand cut the nose and then added the mouth and wonky teeth. This was made in October 2010.
