    Extra height for Victoria sponge

Hi, unfortunately not. The whole thing resembles a pork pie in its colouring 😅 It's just too late now to bake any more and have time to decorate it, so we're just going to buy one in the morning. I feel like such a failure. Really had such a nice cake in mind to make for her. Oh well, maybe...

So it's been in another 15 so 1hr 5 and still the skewer isn't clean and is playing with my fragile state of mind 🤣 another 5 it is. The top now just looks pretty burnt if I'm honest. Yup, all in one tin in middle of oven. Really really not sure what to do now 😅 I need a miracle

I think it's not meant to be 😆 just checked it at 50 mins and it looks crispy on top but the skewer had just liquid on it. Have added another 10 mins, about to see...

    Extra height for Victoria sponge

Hi Angie, I'm in a massive pickle. I'm baking a 70th birthday cake for tomorrow for my mother in law (who doesn't really like me so need to do well!!) and the gf lemon recipe I usually used came out gooey in the middle. 😫😫😫 I did use 8x3inch round tins for the first time and baked at 150 for 55...

6 x 3 Inch Madeira Cake convert to 4 inch

Awww you're too nice!! ❤️ Yes, I used a pallet knife then tried (unsuccessfully) 😆 to use a smoother thingy but it was a cheap plastic one so maybe I need to invest in a metal one. I've also heard that it's best not to add milk to buttercream. Whoops. Maybe that made it harder to smooth? Plus...

6 x 3 Inch Madeira Cake convert to 4 inch

I officially hate buttercream 😆 could not get a smooth finish no matter how hard I tried so the end result was iffy... but it tasted nice so that was a win 😃

6 x 3 Inch Madeira Cake convert to 4 inch

Thank you so much! It's not long out of the oven so I'm going to leave it at least 4 hours before doing a crumb coat and popping buttercream on. Would chilling it dry the sponge out at all? Or I could buttercream tomorrow but would that need time to set before the party at 1 🤔 😅 why do I put...

6 x 3 Inch Madeira Cake convert to 4 inch

Hi again, just wondering what the minimum resting/ cooling time should be before putting buttercream on? I may have left things a little late for a Halloween party tomorrow 😆

    Help with recipe conversion

It's at last finished. Annoyingly the gray I used was darker than I'd have liked and as the tin wasn't completely square (had rounded corners) I had to do a bit of filler! 😫 but on the whole I'm quite happy. I very nearly redid the gray this morning but thought it was probably a bit risky 😬...

Can I add stock syrup to a cold cake or is it too late by then? 😆
