As we're nearing Valentine's Day, I thought I'd finally make this heart-shaped cake. I've had these tins for a few years, but it's taken me until now to finally get them out and use them.

I thought for a spot of indulgence, I'd make a rich chocolate cake and add raspberries to it for a pop of a prominent colour. I did originally want to put the raspberries all across the top of the cake, but it didn't look how I wanted it to so I went back to a more simplistic design with a handful of raspberries just to make it pop slightly.
The base of the cake is a chocolate wholemeal half-and-half cake, covered in piped chocolate fudge icing and then I added the raspberries. I was going to add a dusting of icing sugar, but my mini sieve seems to have disappeared (it's probably ran off with the whisk blades for my hand mixer that I still, to this day cannot find)
however, overall, I don't think it needs it.
The cake was lovely and moist and was great with a cup of tea.

I did take a picture of it with some mojito in a glass, but it looks more like a fizzy kids' drink, so it didn't really give the effect I was looking for.

However, even though the drink was a bit hit-and-miss, the cake wasn't. It was fabulously rich in flavour, decorated with indulgent fudge icing, and topped off with lashings of ruby red raspberries! Perfect for a Valentine's Day treat.
