This ladybird cake is a relatively easy design, and the decorations can also be made in advance.

The cake itself was a 6-inch victoria sponge filled with strawberry jam and then covered in white icing fondant. The grass is lincoln green, and the blade shapes were made using a cutter.
I made the ladybirds a few days before so that they had time to dry out and were easier to handle. They were made from Renshaw Poppy Red and Jet Black icing. I painted the flying swirls onto the cake using a fine paintbrush and edible black sugarflair dye.
The gold 'Happy Birthday' topper was purchased in a set from Amazon.
Note: I did make a 6-inch sponge but used the 7 x 3-inch ingredients and placed it all in my tin to give it a little more height. I baked it on shelf one of my oven, and for 10 minutes longer, I then coated the cake with stock syrup when I removed it from the oven. Please check your oven manual to see which shelf is the best for your bakes.
