It was Rainbow cupcakes this weekend so Han and I have been playing about with the new Colour Splash food colour dyes that I ordered. :D

I used some of the dyes separately in my cake batter and then made a rainbow cupcake. Han unfortunately added her rainbow dyes a little too soon and ended up mixing all her colours together, however she did brighten up her cakes with some sour strands. Here are our results.....

These were the Colour splash food dye colours that I used, I made a normal cake batter (see tutorials for this) and then added my dyes. Please be careful with the amount of dye you use when making these type of cakes as food colours can often alter the taste and consistency of your batter.

I did that taste testing thing again before taking pictures hence the reason there are only five here! :p

Here's the rainbow one I made, this one seemed to erupt in the oven and push the colours upwards.

This is the outside layer of the rainbow cupcake and of course the inside.

I think the rainbow cupcake looks quite pretty but I'm going to have a play about with other colours and other brands. These dyes do contain allergens in them and for me have a slight after taste although Han thinks they are fabulous and her opinion takes precedence because she's a kid! :D

......These are what Han made, her colour didn't turn out too bad and she's made up with her lack of brightness with plenty of sour strands. They also have a touch of lemon in them too as she loves making tangy cupcakes.

Thanks Joan, we did have fun although it's such a shame about Hans colours. She made the cakes herself and added all her own colouring but unfortunately she added it at the wrong moment so when she first started to mix they looked wonderful but then she had to mix it all thoroughly that's when it all combined. She's not deterred though as she is already asking if we can bake again at the weekend.

That's my girl.

I've been playing about with colour again today and have been making more rainbow cupcakes, Hannah will be pleased she will get to taste test them again. :cupcake:

These are my 3 coloured ones.

I've been using Pro Gel dyes for these ones.

These are my 5 coloured ones....

These are my sugar flair dyes, these are the only dyes that don't contain any allergens or additives. I have tried both of these and they don't seem to give me any after tastes although I am going to have to make these again because this time I used a different butter and I need to try it another way to see which works out the easiest to create them!

I know what you mean, I've done multiple rainbow cupcakes and they all turn out very colourful no matter which colours you use.

Yes and also with the cheese and salt, they are really good. I made them for John as I've been promising to make them for a while now. I had to nip out and buy flour though as I had no self raising.
