Move over, Colin; a new Chocolate Treat is making its way to town! Yes, that's right, folks; for all you Jaffa lovers out there, things just got interesting! You'll be pleased to know that our friends over at Mcvitie's have been working their magic and have teamed a Jaffa Cake with the one and only doughnut, thus bringing us Jaffa Jonuts! The Jaffa Jonuts will be available to buy from Tesco stores this Sunday and can be purchased individually at 60p or £1.99 for four. Last year they brought us Pineapple Jaffas; at the beginning of the year, they brought us Cherry and Passion Fruit Jaffas, and now we get giant Jaffa Jonuts! The only thing now is to work out which way you're supposed to eat them. I know most will go with...
Over the weekend, I heard on the radio that people were trying their utmost to melt a Cadbury's Flake in the microwave to non-avail. Curious by their plight, I thought I too, would test the theory of whether you can actually do it. I'm all for an experiment or two, and seeing as chocolate melts on the tip of your tongue or the end of your finger, surely a Flake would be no different in the microwave. Well, you'd think so, wouldn't you? After rummaging around the chocolate cupboard, I came up with a Multipack Flake Bar weighing 20 grams and quickly set about stripping off the wrapper and putting the flake into a bowl. I was going to keep it full size but decided to break it in half. As you can see, there are two chunky pieces and...

I've just stumbled across this article about Ben Fullard, aka Ben The Cake Man and his incredibly life-like flowers. Ben confirmed that he's taken inspiration from his garden during the lockdown and decided to recreate everything floral. He's made Roses, Clematis, Magnolias, Orchids and Ferns and explains that it can take up to 3 days to perfect a single flower or numerous weeks to provide a spray. He says that to make them as life-like as possible, he draws around the petals to form his own templates, so he has life-like sizes to work with. Looking at the pictures, I'm sure you'll agree he is massively talented and many thanks for sharing your talents with us...
A new coronavirus vaccine centre came up with a unique way of celebrating when its doors opened up recently. Frontline workers at London's Bethlem Hospital who received the coronavirus vaccine were treated to Syringe shaped Biscuits made by Consultant Psychologist Dr Penny Brown. The biscuits were so much of a big hit the CEO even tweeted about them! Interim head of nursing Bryony Robertson explained that 'they had tried to create a celebratory atmosphere for staff and the biscuits were a nice touch'. Ms Robertson, who also received her first dose of the vaccine, said she was so proud of the staff. 'This is our first step to a better future'.
Wow! I've just been perusing Facebook and noticed this beautiful cake pop up on my friend's feed. After a bit more searching I've found that the super talented Rosie Cake Diva was the one who sent this lifesized HUG to our wonderful NHS and healthcare workers at the Royal Bolton Hospital as a thank you to all the key workers who have been working tirelessly for us especially this year. There's not more much info on the cake except that Renshaw Baking, Sweet Success Sugarcraft and Aldi UK were attributed to the support of making of it and the real Santa was not harmed when the cake was eaten. If however, you'd like to see it all in one piece then the cake will be making an appearance on Amazing Cakes and Bakes - Channel 5 on 12...

It's coming to that time of year again, and the Royals have not only been showing their support but also their impressive baking skills towards this year's #PoppyAppeal. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge along with their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis have kindly whipped up these beautifully decorated poppy cupcakes to raise awareness and drum up further support for the Armed Forces who are doing all they can to raise as much needed funds despite this year's events. These particular cupcakes were delivered and devoured by a care home residents in Norfolk close to the Royals home. If you'd like to get involved and make your own donation, then please visit The Royal British Legion - Poppy Appeal. Thank...
So it's official! The Great British Bake-off will be making an appearance on our screens very soon! Word has it that due to the pandemic the format of the show will be changing slightly; however, you'll be pleased to know that all the lovely judges will be returning barring Sandi who will be replaced this year by funnyman Matt Lucas! As per the sites, Twitter feed the show is set to return on Tuesday 22 September at 8 pm on Channel 4, and according to sources, the first few episodes will have a longer time frame and a good supply of flour! So mark it in your diary, tell all your friends and set it up on your planner. If you can't wait until then here's a GBBO Teaser Trailer to keep you going. After this year's shenanigans, I...
Yes! It's that time again for all you dunkers, nibblers and devourers of one of life's most satisfying treats! Happy Biscuit Day! Whoop whoop! So to pay homage to this fabulous celebration, I thought I would put together a few biscuit facts before the kettle boils and you're off hunting through the cupboard to find your own delectable treats. But before you do, be sure to check out my five mouth-watering facts first. Enjoy and happy dunking! 1. The word biscuit is from the Latin 'bis-coctus'; 'bis' meaning twice and 'coctus' meaning baked/cooked thus meaning twice baked. The reason being is that originally biscuits went through a double baking process. Firstly they were baked in the oven; then they were dried out further in a cooler...
Hi lovelies, in light of the current pandemic, I thought it might be wise to put down some positive facts about mental health and baking. To be honest, I was hoping to avoid the subject altogether and lived in the hope that we would get back to some sort of normality much quicker. However, it has become apparent that as time moves on, it's clear that COVID-19 isn't going away anytime soon and will eventually form part of our history. So, with that in mind, it's now time to buckle down, socially distance ourselves and try to stay sane in these uncertain times. In doing so, I've put together some facts to help keep you occupied for five minutes and explain how the benefits of baking will help you stay positive, if only for a short...
In light of the recent pandemic, people in lockdown and businesses closing it is becoming apparent that we are still struggling to source freshly baked items such as barms, bloomers and rolls especially when we cannot leave the house. Therefore, to bridge the gap between bakers and consumers, a new website has been created to help bring the two together. Introducing Baker Direct. Baker Direct was created by the Cybake Team at Redblack Software and has been designed to allow users in England, Scotland and Wales the chance to order freshly made items from their nearest bakery which are then delivered straight to your door. The site is straightforward and extremely easy to use; all you have to do is enter your postcode and alter the...
