Eccles Cake Festival - 7-13th October 2013
As part of the upcoming National Cake Week Eccles town centre near Manchester will be hosting their very own Eccles Cake Festival in October! There will be a host of exciting things going on in the week with everything from competitions, arts & crafts to walks and market stalls etc. So why not join in the fun! Eccles Cakes are named after the English town of Eccles although it is uncertain who in fact invented the recipe. James Birch is credited with being the first person to sell Eccles cakes on a commercial basis, which he sold from his shop at the corner of Vicarage Road and St Mary’s Road (now known as Church Street) in the town centre, in 1793.
Lowry Outlet Food Festival 2013
This weekend is the first-ever Lowry Outlet Food Festival which has something for everybody and is FREE entry. With food, cakes, wine and live music, I will certainly be checking it out. I have also discovered that they offer live demos and food tips by Celebrity chefs. Gino D'Acampo is there on Saturday 4th May. James Martin will be there Sunday 5th May. Paul Hollywood will be there on Monday 6th May! Although you will have to buy tickets for £7.00 if you would like to see them.
Resignation Letter Written on a Cake
If you're going to quit your job to pursue your dream job of making cakes for a living, then writing your resignation letter on a cake is definitely the right move. On his 31st birthday, Chris Holmes — now known to the public as "Mr Cake" — decided it was time to quit his job as a Border Agency official at London's Stansted Airport to do something he's passionate about and would allow him to spend more time with this family. For Holmes, this meant pursuing a cake business called Mr Cake and notifying his employers with actual icing on a cake.
Ann Pickard - Cake and Bake show lesson.
Here is a picture of Ann Pickard who ran one of the courses at the Cake and Bake show. Ann is a published author and has over 30 years experience and not only did she teach a marvellous lesson, but she also gave us plenty of help and lots of ideas to take away. I have to say she is one of the nicest people I have ever met and so down to earth. I would love to spend the day with her as she is a fantastic teacher and I know I would learn lots from her. This I have to say deserves a massive 10/10 as it was a thoroughly enjoyable course! :D
