Han and I have finally sat down to make the cake toppers for her birthday cake! With her being a teen this year I asked her what she would like in a cake, little did I realise we would be making a one of a kind original! It's been a long time since we have sat down making things together, so this was a nice bit of fun time for us! The first idea she came up with was to make her lifelong teddy bear dogs into sumo wrestlers; her description was for dog heads to be made onto a sumo body! Fine, I thought, ok, I'm down with that, then as it started to get closer to her birthday I asked her to draw what she had as a cake theme in her head so that we were both on the same page. She then drew this! Both her teds fully formed with mawashi's...
Han's had her creative head on again and come up with this cheery looking gingerbread man. I'm actually torn between whether he's supposed to be an early Halloween representation of Dracula or a Ringmaster from the Circus. Needless to say, I love him anyway. His cheery demeanour brings a smile to my face, and he looks smart, albeit a little dusty. Whatever you decide, he looks like I hope you like him as much as I do and well done, Han!
Well I made my brownies today, yayyyy ...first time brownie success they turned out great except I thought a little on the thin side, would of liked them a little thicker. So for my next batch, Was wondering if I increase the recipe by half how much extra time would I need to cook them...these were 20 minutes at 180c would maybe extra 10 min. do it...? Hi people, I was on the search for bread that was nice as fresh bread but could also make nice toast because we could not eat a loaf in a day... well I have tried a few but was not happy with the toasted version ... until now ! Tried Paul Hollywood bloomer and it worked a treat a very nice high rising bread [emoji506] that toasts beautifully, it takes a little longer but just like old fashion toast. Very few ingredients, he makes it by hand but I did mine in the mixer I then put mine in a tin he bakes his on a tray. Well worth a try people. [emoji1303] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I recently made a chocolate drip cake for myself as I wanted to play about and see how they are made, it's not perfect and looks bulky, but overall it's fine for a first attempt and for me to eat. If it were for someone else, it never would have left the kitchen. 🤣 I have learned a few things whilst making it regarding how and where to pour the chocolate...start from the edge first for the drip effect and not the middle! I didn't temper the chocolate either, so it doesn't have a shiny finish; however, next time, I may consider using ganache as it will be thinner and maybe drip and run better. If you are attempting to make one of these, ensure your chocolate is very thin and runny as this will give you the best look, also make and...
Ahoy, there mateys....so after a swashbuckling and arrghhtastic evening, the ladies managed to create a magnificent array of pirates, parrots, and a whole bunch of treasured cupcakes to take home. We had another fun evening learning about shaping and making icing into faces, birds and other lovely pirate creations. And here are the ladies creative efforts, these beauties would look fabulous at a themed party. Another job well done! Here's what they made.
As you know it was recently my birthday, so Hannah decided as part of my present she would make me a cake. She then banished me from my own kitchen and proceeded with her plan; I was only allowed in to take a few photos! Here she is in action! She's good to go with her instructions at the ready. Setting up! Phase 1 nearly complete. Baking completed. Now for cooling and decorations! This went a little pear-shaped as she broke one of the candles, lol! Et Voila! The finished article, it was a lovely lemon sponge with a lemon curd filling, delicious.
I love pancakes, with lemon and sugar, if I've not made my own I've used, I think it's called Betty Crocker, mix that is in a container that you just add water too and shake well. The only problem with that is you don't get many pancakes from it, only about 6. :(
Christmas Cupcake workshop Student Creations Ho, ho, ho! Well, it's not Christmas yet, but we're definitely on our way. I love our Christmas workshops as it always gets me into the Christmas spirit and tonight was no different. Caroline and Sarah arrived promptly followed by Gail and Sam; Lynsey and Linda then arrived bearing gifts and then shortly to follow were Jacqui and Jenny. As I provide the entertainment, as in myself, some tunes and some Christmas cheer Lynsey and Linda do one better and like the three wise men or in our case the two wise women they bring some lovely gifts of Christmas truffles and faux mulled wine! Not only that Lynsey rocks up in her Christmas jumper and I show her my Santa themed socks! Ooh, it's so...
Well, what a fangtastic evening we had yesterday on the Halloween Cupcake Workshop. It was very eerie, and there were definitely some spooky goings-on! At first, some of my students thought I was a tad psychic because when they entered the room, I immediately looked over and called out their names. Little did they know they were my newest students hence the reason I knew who they were. ;) Jenny had already arrived, and the other ladies soon followed suit. So after quick introductions, I then spoke to the ladies regarding the evening's lesson and how we were going to proceed. Some of them weren't quite sure that they would end up with the creepy creations; however, I did assure them that they would each end up with their own individual...
So we're finally back after the summer break and this evening's lesson is enchanting and all things fairy themed. It is lovely to see familiar faces returning and wonderful to see our new batch of students who are eager to learn. Once we have all the formalities out of the way, I then begin the lesson. We start off by making the ladybug creature, then move onto the cute caterpillar and finish the first demonstration off with a toadstool. During the demo, we get into discussions about shapes and sizes, round bits, squashed bits and then about bits and bobs in general. This was all mainly aimed at the shape of the toadstool and how it's shape may be perceived! Who would have thought that an enchanted fairy-themed cupcake workshop would...
